Vote and Devote

VOTE and DEVOTE

Special Announcement: My name is Wayne Dunaway and I approve this article.

We have a wonderful right as citizens of this great country to make our voice heard and to vote for leaders according to our convictions. This article is not about who should vote for, because, while voting is important, I believe it is more important for Christians to DEVOTE.
The Christian, more than anything, needs to be “devoted to prayer” (Rom. 12:12, NASV). The solution to the problem our nation is facing is found in the Bible. The greatest problem we face is sin. The greatest enemy is Satan. The greatest hindrance is us. The greatest threat is judgment from God. And the greatest hope is found in one verse in the Bible. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God gives us the remedy for healing our nation: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will forgive their sin and heal their land.” In this verse we have:

THE PEOPLE HE HELPS – “If my people…” God promises to help his children. Therefore, the greatest hope this country has rests in Christian people.

THE PRIDE HE HATES – “will humble themselves…” God hates “a proud look” (Proverbs 6:16). Pride leads to destruction both in individual lives and in nations (Proverbs 16:18). We need to repent of our self-righteousness, our prideful attitudes, and seek to be humble people who are led by the Spirit of Jesus.

THE PRAYER HE HEEDS – “and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways…” Prayer and repentance go hand in hand. The only prayer God will hear and answer is the prayer of the one who is humble enough to repent and bow before Him. The one, who thinks that he or she can make it without God, will not be heard.

THE PROMISE HE HONORS – “I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” God promises to heal if we will get real.

We should all vote in the upcoming Presidential Elections prayerfully and according to our convictions. But, more importantly, we must “devoted to prayer” for our nation every day no matter who wins the election. “God Bless America” is more than just something to say…it is a prayer to pray. Thank God for Jesus! (2 Cor. 9:15).
