IF My People…

IF My People…

With all of the issues facing our Great Nation, the Christian, more than anything, needs to be “devoted to prayer” (Rom. 12:12, NASV). The solution to the problem our nation is facing is found in the Bible. The greatest problem we face is sin. The greatest enemy is Satan. The greatest hindrance is us. The greatest threat is judgment from God. And the greatest hope is found in one verse in the Bible. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God gives us the remedy for healing our nation:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will forgive their sin and heal their land.” In this verse we have:

THE Disciples – “If my people…” God promises to help his children. Therefore, the greatest hope this country has rests in Christian people.(1 Peter 3:12).

THE Disposition – “will humble themselves…” God hates “a proud look” (Proverbs 6:16). Pride leads to destruction both in individual lives and in nations (Proverbs 16:18). We need to repent of our self-righteousness, our prideful attitudes, and seek to be humble people who are led by the Spirit of Jesus (Rom. 8:14).

THE Desire – “and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways…” Prayer and repentance go hand in hand. The only prayer God will hear and answer is the prayer of the one who is humble enough to repent and bow before Him. The one, who thinks that he or she can make it without God, will not be heard (Jn. 15:5).

THE Declaration – “I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” God promises to heal…if we will get real.God declares that He will help “if” His people will heed.(1 Pet. 3:12).

God can change things because of His power and care…but we’ll need to observe “the sweet hour of prayer.” We must “trust and obey” and “constantly pray” for our nation. “God Bless America” must be more than just something we continuely say…it must be a prayer that we fervently pray. (James 5:16). Thank God for Jesus! (2 Cor. 9:15).
